I think he is trying to say " YOU SUCKED!"
"They did what they had to do" = "When our team beat ourselves, the Ducks said, 'Sweet.' and then some Ducks made some good plays."
Bryan Murray is a great coach...I am glad he didn't try and excuse the way they played...that takes a lot.
