Gil on Ovie's blog

Dont hate, Gil.

Alexander Ovechkin has a blog now, I see. I met him when he first came to D.C. He used to come to the games front row and to practice too and watch me play because both of his parents play basketball. So I heard he had a little skill and he gave me his jersey. I like watching the Capitals games just to see people getting hit against the glass. That’s my thing; watching people get hammered against the glass. As far as his blog goes, anybody can have a blog -- monkeys can have blogs -- but if it’s not good or funny than it’s not good or funny. The problem with athletes getting blogs now is that they get blogs thinking they can hide away from the media, but, no, you still have to talk to the media. It’s just something that’s added to put fans in your everyday life, that’s all. You give yourself a little bit of a human side.
Thanks to Steinberg for the hit.

Sand + hockey players = training

Its not quite the Chris Chelios work out, but Matt Pettinger gets down and dirty staying in shape.

"It's good to mix things up and training never gets stagnant under Jeff's methods," said Pettinger, who went from role-playing NHL forward to a 20- and 16-goal scorer the past two seasons with Washington.

"Sand is an unstable surface and so the beach is excellent cross-training because hockey is a sport where your feet and ankles are always on edges."
Work it out boyfriend.

Sloooow offseason

Its been a couple of slow hockey days. So, I decided to make up my own news. These would be some good fake headlines to keep me entertained during the off season:

Staal Brothers jump bail: last seen headed toward Mexico, disguised as Amish Schoolgirls

Jeremy Roenick retiring from hockey to become couples therapist; "I'm really a sensitive guy"

Mike Comrie dating Dakota Fanning, "People dont understand that she is really mature for a 12 year-old"

Shane Doan legally adopts Lindsay Lohan, says "We are both misunderstood. I dont even speak French, and she hates coke. Only drinks Pepsi"

Gary Bettman stepping down as NHL head, will star in revival of "Annie, get your gun"

Bollywood + Football

This really has nothing to do with hockey, but its so funny that I can't help but post it. As an Indian woman who has been forced to watch dozens of Bollywood films, I can honestly say this is the best damn Indian dance sequence I have ever seen. Thanks to Dan Steinberg for the video.

Own your Ovie

My Google alert will never again be able to match what it sent me this morning: the press release for a company selling an Alex Ovechkin All-Star action figure.

Why Ovie, what large legs you have! And neck. And shoulders. And caterpillar like eyebrows. But, the Upper Deck company wants you to know these action figures will be sure to sell out shortly, so buy yours right away for the bargain price of $49.99. And Upper Deck also wants you to know this:

At 11 inches and produced in the underground style of urban vinyl, Upper Deck's All-Star Vinyl action figures are a combination of art and realism not typically found in sports licensed products.
If you decide to shell out the fifty bucks for one of these, let me know so I can post a picture of the lucky Caps fan and his vinyl Ovie.
